WHAT TO EXPECT

We like to describe the process of creating your perfect pet portraits as a series of steps from beginning to end! Here is a breakdown of what to expect from your pet portrait experience with S. Robertson.

CONSULT

We are always delighted to meet clients in-person for the first time! During our consultation, we love to discuss photoshoot ideas, locations, and what goals you’d like to accomplish during our time together. We are happy to meet near you, have you over to our studio, or somewhere in-between. We’ll show you examples of previous photoshoots, our beautiful, archival-quality print products, and get to know you on a personal level. Please feel free to bring your four-legged companion along, too!

PLAN

Once you’ve decided that a session with S. Robertson is the right fit for you, we’ll work together to find a package that fits your desires and budget. We’re also happy to create a custom package tailored to your needs. We will require a signed contract and deposit to book your date, and you’ll be set! This is a great time to pass ideas and inspiration back and forth, determine a perfect location, and discuss ideas on what to wear - for both you and your pet!

SESSION

During our photo session together, you can expect a fun, professional experience with us. With years of experience as pet owners as well as photographers, we understand it may take some extra time and loads of patience to get a perfect shot. We’ll bring toys and treats (consulting you beforehand on any special dietary needs your pet may have) and work with you and your pet in a relaxed, natural way. Our goal is to capture the essence of who you are - and who your pet is - and like to allow the animals to set the pace of the shoot. Choosing a location that allows pets and provides a safe environment for everybody is a top priority!

RESULTS

At the end of all our hard work and planning comes the best part: seeing your beautiful images! Between 2 and 3 weeks after our photoshoot, we will set up a time for our gallery reveal! We will work with you to choose images that fit your interior decoration goals or make that perfect gift for a family member. All images will be hand-retouched and available for a variety of beautiful, archival print products. Clients normally spend between $500 and $3000 on their artwork at this point.

FAQ

What if my dog cannot be off the leash?

Not a problem! My number one priority is your pets safety. Almost all of the dogs you see on my website were on a leash for their session. Thanks to my photo editing skills, we can make a leash disappear. Another option for you is to choose a fashionable leash.

How much experience do you have with animals?

I’ve been photographing animals for many years. Growing up, there was never a time I didn’t have multiple pets. As an adult, this has not changed! As a rescue volunteer, a dog owner, trainer and akc dog show handler, I have experience with all different temperaments. In my portfolio, you can see the various type of animals I’ve had sessions with. All of which have different personalities and traits.

What if my pet is stressed out during the session

We will work with your pet to get the best photos possible. Prior to the session, we will discuss your pet’s personality in unfamiliar places, strangers, and other such habits. It is all about making them comfortable and taking it slow. Treats help, too!

Can I be included in some of the photos with my pet?

Of course! Nothing makes me happier than when I have the chance to capture a unique bond that you have with your companion. But remember, the focal point of this session will ultimately always be of your pet. By making them the center of attention, we can see the love they have for you in these photos.

Is there a charge for additional pets?

No. Unlike other pet photographers, I encourage you to bring as many as you like! Sometimes, pets loosen up better with their friends. Come one, come all!

What if my pet isn’t well trained?

Almost 90% of the animals I photograph aren’t trained, require leashes, and need a lot of owner intervention. Some are nervous, some hyper, and some are straight-up confused. I have experienced all sorts of different behaviors, and I am fully prepared!

How long does it take to receive the photos?

Typically, the turnaround is two weeks. If special edits or retouching needs are requested, it may take a tad bit longer. This will all be discussed after your session based on your desires and requirements!
